Technical Requirements

On Sentinel-1, this includes the core Data Handling subsystem, the Payload Data Handling & Transmission (PDHT) subsystem (with includes the X-band RF subsystem) and the S-band TT&C subsystem. The candidate may be requested to assume the responsibility and perform activities for additional subsystems or systems as defined by the SOM or Division Head.

On Sentinel-2, this includes the On Board Computer, including the Authentication Unit, the Remote Interface Unit and the Mass Memory and Formatting Unit, together with their application software. The candidate may be requested to assume the responsibility and perform activities for additional subsystems or systems as defined by the SOM or Division Head.

On Sentinel-5P, this includes the On Board Computer, the Remote Interface Unit, the Mass Memory and the PDHU, together with their application software. The candidate may be requested to assume the responsibility and perform activities for additional subsystems or systems as defined by the SOM or Division Head.

Other areas of responsibility are:

•             Validation, test and operation of the Mission Control System (MCS)

•             Set-up, validation, test and operation of the OBSM systems

•             Validation and test of the Data Handling Subsystem of the Simulator

Academic Requirements

University degree (or equivalent) in engineering or physics.

 

Specific Requirements

Essential:

Spacecraft subsystem knowledge, preferably for Data Handling and RF subsystems

•     Experience in activities applicable to spacecraft operations

•     Fluency in English, both in speech and writing

•     Team-player

•     Self-starter, able to work independently with little supervision

Desirable:

•     Familiarity with the ESOC environment

•     Familiarity with satellite control systems, in particular SCOS-2000

•     Some experience dealing with external interfaces

•     Familiarity with operational simulators, especially the ones based on SimSat

•     Familiarity with low Earth orbit satellites

ECSS Packet Utilisation Standard knowledge (Sentinel-2 and -5P)

Applicants should have basic knowledge of all spacecraft subsystems and detailed knowledge of the subsystems listed.  Knowledge of and experience in ESA Ground Segment Operations and ESOC Ground Segment Components (Mission Control System, Simulators) is desirable.
