Technical Requirements

The main tasks of the position will be:

·Execution of Ground Segment Operations for following activities

o    Columbus and increment operations

o    Support to ATV operations

o    ESA medical operations

o    Docking video support

o    Management of services and communication lines

o    Operation of the data, voice and video subsystems

o    Coordination of Columbus operations with Columbus Flight Control Team and external partners such as NASA, CNES and Russian Space Agency

o    Perform real time ground segment operations according to timeline, procedures and flight rules

o    24/7 operations support (shift work)

·         Level 1 maintenance and troubleshooting

o    Support all ESA Ground Segment users

o    Trouble shoot in real time Ground Segment problems and anomalies

o    On-line trouble ticket processing

·         Reporting

o    Contribute to mission and increment reporting logs

·         Engineering

o    Support of requirements definition and implementation of the Ground Segment for increment activities

o    Development of new operational procedures

o    Generation of test procedures

o    Coordination of interface changes

o    Formal and informal interface testing

o    Support and preparation of Test Readiness Reviews

Academic Requirements

This position requires a person with University (or similar) degree in engineering or physics.

Specific Requirements Candidates should be system-minded and able to work as a member of an international and interdisciplinary team. Expertise of ground segment operations is highly desirable. 

 

Background information

The Columbus Ground Controller/Engineer is responsible for the operations of the Columbus Ground Segment. He is the single point of contact for all ground related issues for the Columbus Flight Control Team and for all ISS partners and external users.
