Technical Requirements

MCS (Mission Control System) is one of the core subsystems in the Columbus project as this is the interface of the ground control team for TM/TC to the Columbus module attached to ISS (International Space Station). The MCS Subsystem Engineer is in charge with all activities related to the good functioning of MCS. This includes installing and configuring the software environment, maintaining the system up to date, supporting different activities on ground (simulations, testing, etc.) and troubleshooting possible problems within MCS or interfaced subsystems. The MCS Subsystem Engineer is also the direct interface with Airbus, the manufacturer of the system, for all technical matters related to MCS, like new software deliveries or layer 3 and 4 support.

Academic Requirements

A University degree in an engineering discipline is required.

Specific Requirements

·Experience with similar control systems

·Linux and Bash scripting

·Basic IP networking

·Virtualisation

·Oracle database administration

·Experience with large software systems is an advantage

·Ability to investigate and troubleshoot problems

·Ability to work in a multinational team

·Good communication, planning and reporting skills

Additional skills required:

  • System-minded and a team player
  • Able to work in an interdisciplinary team
  • Self-starter, able to work independently with little or no supervision
  • Fluent in English, both in speech and writing
  • German language skills would be an asset
