Technical Requirements

LSE Space is looking for  an experienced Engineers (m/f) in order to fulfill the duty of:                                                        

Integration and Verification Engineers (m/f)

to work in Darmstadt - Germany.

For our activities at Eumetsat, we are currently seeking to employ highly motivated and enthusiastic Integration and Verification Engineers.

The scope of the activities is to perform Integration and Verification (I&V) of the EUMETSAT Sentinel-6/Jason-CS (S6/JCS) Ground segment and System components and to contribute to their Validation.

Typical activities shall cover the following tasks:

Preparatory activities for the Integration and Verification:
- Analysis of VCD. For the requirements to be verified by test, analysis and inspection, ensure the scope is in line with the expected scope and configuration of the S6/JCS GS tranches and that the testing activities can be scheduled within the foreseen timeframe
- Observation and analysis of I&V activities performed as part of the GS procurements
- Maintenance of the existing integration and verification test specifications and generation of additional ones as needed
- Maintenance of existing test tools and test data, as well as development of additional test tools if necessary and the tuning/modification of test data
- Based on initial test specifications and other relevant documents (lower level test docs, user manuals, etc) write detailed test procedures
- By successive iterations refine the test procedures until they are in a status ready to be executed. Set up the test tools and refine the test data
- Analysis of problems and management of anomalies
- Carry out compatibility testing, in preparation for the integration activities
- Contribute to the integration and verification plans and support the EUMETSAT team during the project reviews in relation to the I&V documentation

Integration activities:
- Scheduling and executing of integration activities in close coordination with EUMETSAT, including requesting use of common resources (such as MMEs)
- Ensuring sufficiently in advance of execution that relevant procedures, tools and data are ready to be used, performing any final tuning or set-up as necessary
- Organising and holding, under the direction of EUMETSAT, Integration Test Readiness Reviews (TRR), in which the readiness of all required elements for integration will be checked (e.g. the results of compatibility testing during the preparation activities), any constraint dealt with and the final arrangements for the execution of the integration tests taken
- Performing the integration activities and testing according to the plans, procedures and arrangements taken in the TRR, undertaking any required analysis of the results/issues and recording the outcome in relevant reports, and anomaly reports where necessary
- Organising and holding, under the direction of EUMETSAT, Integration Test Review Board meetings in which completion of the integration activities related to each block of verification activities will be assessed
- Supporting Anomaly Review Board (ARB) meetings (if applicable)
- Liaising with EUMETSAT teams and development contractors for technical issues related to the utilisation of the facilities, the communication of anomalies, the follow-up of their resolution and installation of patches or new releases
- Producing a report summarising the results of the ICD verification

Verification activities:
- Scheduling and executing verification activities and testing in close coordination with EUMETSAT
- Ensuring sufficiently in advance of the execution of the tests that relevant procedures, tools and data are ready to be used, performing any final tuning or set-up as necessary
- Organising and holding, under the direction of EUMETSAT, Verification Test Readiness Reviews (TRR), in which the readiness of all required elements to perform a specific set of ground segment activities will be checked, any constraint dealt with and the final arrangements for the execution of the tests taken
- Performing the Verification activities according to the plans, procedures and arrangements
- Maintaining the OGS VCD and recording the results of the tests in DOORS
- Organising and holding, under the direction of EUMETSAT, Verification Test Review Board (TRB) meetings in which completion of the verification activities related to each block of verification activities will be assessed
- Supporting Anomaly Review Board (ARB) meetings (if applicable)
- Liaising with EUMETSAT teams and service providers for technical issues related to the utilisation of the facilities, the communication of anomalies, the follow-up of their resolution and installation of patches or new releases
- Produce verification reports.

 

Academic Requirements

University degree in engineering (e.g. space or software engineering) or equivalent

 

Specific Requirements

Essential requirements:

- University degree in engineering (e.g. space or software engineering) or equivalent

- Up to 7 years related work experience

- Proven ability in I&V of complex systems

- Requirements and verification management

- Structured software development and verification

- Software maintenance, performance monitoring

- ECSS standards

- Configuration control

- Ability to analyse complex situations, identify critical areas and produce accurate and concise analyses - and recommendations

- Ability to work autonomously and plan his/her work and to cope with tight schedules and multiple tasks to achieve agreed deadlines

- Ability to work in a team

- Fluent English language skills

Known Applications:

- Satellite communications (packet TM/TC, PUS, SLE protocol)

- Mission planning and control functions

- Satellite monitoring and control (e.g. SCOS-2000)

- Near real-time, Earth observation data processing, archiving, distribution

Specific/Product Skills:

- Operating systems: UNIX/Linux and Windows

- Networking: Internet protocols, TCP/IP programming, network monitoring

- Automated software testing

- Requirements and verification management using DOORS

- Meteorological data formats: HDF5, NetCDF, JPEG2000

- Programming languages: C/C++, Java, Javascript, XML, Perl, Tcl/Tk

- Relational databases: MySQL, Oracle

 

Further information:

The tasks shall be mainly carried out at the EUMETSAT headquarters in Darmstadt and occasionally at the European ground station sites/Remote Mission Control Centre site. Travel within Europe and the USA may be needed for the execution of specific tests, to be specified within the relevant work packages.
