Technical Requirements

Main tasks of the position will be:

·         Definition and maintenance of automated and paper based operational Ground Stations procedures, in accordance with the corresponding configuration management and quality assurance practices

·         Planning and scheduling of the regular ground Station maintenance activities within ongoing operational constraints

·         Interface at technical level with the maintenance service providers and coordinate the maintenance activities

·         Coordination of the investigation and rectification of anomalies reported by the operations/maintenance team and interface with manufacturers if necessary for anomaly correction (and verification)

·         Attend daily/weekly operations coordination meetings and interface with operational representative(s) as required

·         Provision of ground station support to operations during critical mission phases, pre and post launch (i.e.: SVT, LEOP, IOT and contingency)

·         Assisting with the preparation or evaluation of proposals, as required, for modifications/improvements to the Ground Stations and associated equipment

·         Support the planning and scheduling of the implementation, testing and validation of these modifications/improvements

·         Provision of training to operation teams about ground stations upgrades

·         Provision of status reports about the performance of the ground stations and associated systems;

·         Maintenance of Ground stations databases

·         Provision of support to the setting up of maintenance agreements/contracts from a technical point of view

In performing these tasks it is required to apply the client’s configuration and change control procedures as well as the relevant system engineering standards and quality management procedures.

Academic Requirements

A University degree (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline.

Specific Requirements

·         Minimum of 5 years experience in the Operations and Maintenance of Large Ground Stations and/or Ground Stations Engineering/Integration to be used either for GEO or LEO missions

·         Maintenance and operations of large ground stations including site infrastructure

·         Operation preparation phase, focusing on creation and maintenance of automated procedures to operate large ground stations from local and remote

·         Ground Station design/integration/testing (in particular regarding the Antenna, RF Front End, Base Band subsystems and Monitoring & Control)

·         Usage of Tracking systems including Antenna Control Unit (ACU)/Tracking receivers for large antennas to acquire either LEO or GEO satellite

·         Operation and configuration of integrated TT&C baseband equipment and ranging systems (e.g. IN-SNEC Cortex type)

·         Usage of High Data Rate Demodulators

·         RF measurement practices and usage of related instrumentation

·         Knowledge of modulation/demodulation schemes applied by Ground to Space ICD for TT&C and payload data transmission

·         Ability to conduct all activities in an orderly and disciplined manner

·         Be able to work as a member of an interdisciplinary team

·         Be able to work independently with little or no supervision

·         Good communication skills

·         Be fluent in English, both spoken and written

 

Desirable skills would be:

·         Commercial satellite and micro wave data links

·         Basic knowledge of WAN, LAN and TCP/IP protocol

·         Implementation of relevant ECSS standards and CCSDS recommendations

·         In Orbit Test (I.O.T.) systems and test procedures

·         French language skills would be a plus

 

Background information

LSE Space is looking for an Engineer (m/f) filling the role of Ground Station Maintenance Engineer Support at ESOC in Darmstadt.

The engineer shall work in the System Engineering and Projects Division (SEP), which is part of the Technical & Scientific Support Department (TSS) in Eumetsat as a member of the Ground Stations team, sharing the duty according to the work load, so he/she will be expected to acquire and maintain a System-wide view of the various Ground Stations.
